I have heard it said that it consisted of mostly Spanish Republican expats and refugees. I'm mentioning it because with Franco's Spain apparently entering the war on the Allies side, i was wondering if there might be possible friction because of that.

A fair question that. I'm unsure if it was 'mostly' as you say. However, in Breakthrough, the unit gets virtually wiped out in the defensive fighting in Southern Germany, so no such issue would exist, certainly not in a way to greatly stir the political pot.

Yet, at least one officer survived and was transferred to the Foreign Legion, I believe.

Indeed, you are speaking of Plummer, Clemencau's relative. His lineage is revealled in the bios, and there is no risk of communist agitation from his quarter.

Also, I suspect that some other survivors of the unit, among others in the 2nd Armored, may have made to to Stuttgart before the Soviet blockade.

Very p[ossibly. It may be that some of the inevitable survivors will find their way into other french units at some time :-)
