116th Panzer Aufklarungs Abteilung lead the way, supported by Panthers from the 16th Panzer Regiment's I Abteilung. The German commander elected to rush the bridge in case it was wired. the lead 251/22, mounting a 75mm Pak, never got a shot away before a 6pdr anti-tank gun disabled it. A second shot killed it and two of the crew.
